I honestly don't know if what I'm about to share is relevant to this season or if people are even talking about it right now. But I love a good thrift shop, and I think that's reason enough to write about it.
One of my favorite things about fashion is finding a simple piece of clothing and figuring out how many different ways I can wear it. You don't always need to buy something new or spend a lot of money to put together an outfit you love. Sometimes, all it takes is a little patience, a good find, and some inspiration from Pinterest.
And that's exactly what happened when I visited one of my favorite thrift shops here in Thailand.
My Favorite 79 THB Thrift Shop in Thailand
If you live in Thailand, you might have seen thrift shops selling clothes at affordable prices. One of my favorites is 79 THB Thrift Shop, where the clothes are priced at just 79 baht each.
I know there are cheaper options, especially in the bigger thrift markets. You can find plenty of clothes at lower prices if you're willing to spend time searching. But personally, I prefer a thrift shop where the clothes are already displayed and I can see my options without digging through piles.
There's something satisfying about walking into a shop, looking through the racks, and finding a piece that catches your attention. It's a much more relaxed experience for me.
Don't get me wrong. I also enjoy visiting big thrift markets sometimes. They can be great places to find unique pieces, especially when you have a specific budget and plenty of time to shop.
But let's be honest: shopping in a big thrift market can be exhausting. They can get crowded, and you often need to dig through piles of clothes to find something good. With so many options available, I sometimes don't even know where to start.
For me, big thrift markets are better when I have a trip coming up and need several outfits for a week or even a month. I can dedicate more time to searching for different pieces and experimenting with styles.
But when I'm looking for classic pieces that I can wear every day, I prefer a smaller thrift shop or even a boutique.
How about you? Do you prefer digging for hidden gems at a big thrift market, or would you rather shop somewhere with fewer options and clothes already on display?
Finding the Perfect Pair of White Shorts
A few days ago, I visited my favorite 79 THB thrift shop again. As usual, there were plenty of good pieces hanging on the racks.
And luckily, I found something I had been looking for: a pair of white shorts.
It might not sound like a big deal, but finding the right pair of shorts can be surprisingly difficult. Sometimes they're too tight, too short, too loose, or simply don't fit the way you imagined.
But this pair? It was almost perfect.
The size was just right. The shorts weren't too tight, and they weren't too short. They weren't overly loose, either. They had that relaxed fit I wanted without looking baggy or shapeless.
And then there's the fabric.
I think it might be polyester, but I'm honestly not sure. I'm not a fashion designer or a fabric expert, so I wouldn't want to pretend I know exactly what it is.
What I do know is that the material feels smooth, and the shorts fall nicely when I wear them. They don't look stiff, and they have that relaxed shape I love.
Sometimes, you don't need to know every technical detail about a piece of clothing. If it feels comfortable, fits well, and looks good on you, that's already a great start.
I especially love how these shorts look like something you'd see in a Pinterest outfit inspiration post. They're simple, classic, and easy to style.
White shorts might not be the most exciting item in a wardrobe, but that's actually what makes them so useful. They're a simple base for so many different outfits.
You can wear them with a basic T-shirt, a button-down shirt, a tank top, or even a more structured blouse. The possibilities are there, even when the piece itself is simple.
Of course, finding the shorts was only the beginning. The next question was: How exactly was I going to style them?
Using Pinterest to Find Outfit Inspiration
Once I got home, I did what I usually do when I have a new clothing piece and don't know how I want to wear it.
I opened Pinterest.
I started searching for white shorts outfits and looking at how other people styled similar pieces. I wanted ideas that looked effortless, classic, and easy to recreate with clothes I might already have in my wardrobe.
Pinterest is one of my favorite places to find fashion inspiration because I can see how different pieces work together. Sometimes, I know exactly what I want to wear, but I struggle to put the whole outfit together. Other times, I have a piece of clothing sitting in my closet and no idea how to style it.
That's when Pinterest comes in handy.
You can search for a specific item, such as white shorts, and find different outfit combinations. You might discover a simple combination you never thought of before, or you might see a familiar outfit styled in a way that feels new.
For this particular pair of shorts, I wanted to explore classic looks that wouldn't require me to buy an entirely new wardrobe.
Looking at these outfits gave me a few ideas for how I could style my white shorts using simple pieces and accessories.
And honestly, this is one of my favorite parts of fashion: taking inspiration from an outfit you love and figuring out how to make it work with what you already own.
How to Recreate Pinterest Outfits Without Buying Everything New
One thing I've learned is that you don't necessarily need to buy the exact clothes you see in a Pinterest photo.
Sometimes, we look at an outfit and immediately think we need the same top, the same bag, the same shoes, and even the same accessories to recreate it.
But that's not always necessary.
The goal is to understand what makes the outfit work and see if you can create a similar look with pieces you already have.
Here are a few things I consider when looking for outfit inspiration.
1. Start With One Piece You Already Own
In my case, that piece was a pair of white shorts.
Instead of planning an outfit from scratch, I started with what I already had. This made it easier to search for inspiration because I had a specific item in mind.
You can do the same thing with jeans, a black skirt, a white shirt, or any other basic piece in your wardrobe.
Start with one item, then look for outfit combinations built around it.
2. Look at the Overall Outfit, Not Just the Individual Pieces
When you find an outfit you love on Pinterest, pay attention to how everything works together.
Is the outfit relaxed or structured? Are the colors neutral? Is the top fitted while the bottom is loose? Are the accessories simple?
These little details can help you understand why you like a particular look.
For example, white shorts paired with a simple top might look completely different depending on the shoes, bag, and accessories. You don't always need to copy every item to achieve a similar overall style.
3. Shop Your Own Closet First
Before buying anything new, check what you already have.
You might already own a top that works with your thrifted shorts, or a bag that gives you the same look as the one in your inspiration photo.
I think this is where having classic pieces can be useful. Simple clothing is often easier to mix and match, so you can create several outfits without needing to spend more money.
And if you do need something extra, you can always look for it at a thrift shop.
4. Don't Worry About Matching Everything Exactly
Pinterest is a great source of inspiration, but I don't think we need to treat every photo as a strict outfit formula.
Maybe you don't have the same shoes. Maybe your bag is a different color. Or maybe the top in the photo isn't something you would normally wear.
That's fine.
You can still take the idea and make it your own. The point is to find a look you like, not to make your outfit an exact copy of someone else's.
Besides, the best outfits are often the ones that feel comfortable and natural to you.
Why I Love Finding Classic Pieces at Thrift Shops
For me, thrift shopping isn't only about finding the cheapest clothes. It's also about discovering pieces I can actually wear and enjoy.
I would rather find a few items that fit well and work with my everyday wardrobe than buy a lot of clothes just because they're inexpensive.
That's why I enjoy looking for classic pieces. A simple pair of white shorts, a good pair of jeans, or a basic shirt can be worn in so many different ways.
They're also useful when I want to try a new style without spending too much money.
If I see an outfit on Pinterest that I like, I can look at the pieces I already own and see what I'm missing. Sometimes, I can recreate the look without buying anything. Other times, I might find what I need on my next thrift shopping trip.
And there's something satisfying about that process.
You find a piece at an affordable price, bring it home, experiment with different combinations, and eventually create an outfit that feels like you.
Of course, not every thrift shop visit will end with a great find. Sometimes, you won't see anything you like, and that's okay. I think it's better to shop with an idea in mind but remain open to unexpected discoveries.
For my white shorts, I was lucky enough to find something that fit perfectly and matched the kind of classic look I wanted.
Now, I have a new piece to experiment with, and Pinterest has given me plenty of ideas to start with.
A Little Pinterest Inspiration Goes a Long Way
I'm not sure whether white shorts are trending this season, and honestly, I don't think they need to be.
I found a pair that I love at one of my favorite thrift shops in Thailand, and that was enough reason to start experimenting with new outfits.
For me, fashion doesn't always have to be about following trends or buying the latest pieces. Sometimes, it's about finding clothes that fit well, feel comfortable, and make getting dressed a little more enjoyable.
Pinterest helps me see the possibilities in a simple item, while thrift shopping gives me a way to build my wardrobe without spending too much.
And when you put the two together, you might discover that you already have everything you need to create an outfit you love.
So the next time you find a good thrifted piece, try searching for outfit inspiration on Pinterest before buying anything else. You might be surprised by how many ways you can style it.
Now I'm curious: Do you use Pinterest to plan your outfits, or do you prefer putting together looks on your own? And when it comes to thrift shopping, are you team big thrift market or team small thrift shop?
