The Ordinary Review Is it a hype or not?

Pattaya City, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri 20150, Thailand

Since I've decided to use my Icosmetica Philippines once a month for peeling, I tried to go back to my usual skincare routine, toner, moisturizer and sunblock. I used the Dear Klairs Preparation Facial Toner and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Mini before, but it didn't satisfy me after I finished the bottle. And I heard this new hype on Youtube The Ordinary products.

I did my research first before purchasing The Ordinary products, and I was really happy to discover the Youtuber Melissa Van Dijk. I love how she explains thoroughly and clearly about the products that anyone could understand. So, it made me decide to try The Ordinary products, when I searched it online, geeeez! I can't find a store that ship to Thailand, however, there are a lot of Beauty companies that sell The Ordinary products but I'm not sure which one is legit. Until I came across Beautybay, I haven't tried this online store before so I was skeptical and hesitant at first but I still pushed through because their website and social media looks legit and boy! their shipping fee? is not that much. If you opt for no shipment tracking number it's only 300 THB and 400 THb if there's one. The next problem that I encountered is there are a lot of The Ordinary products to choose from with different usage and different specialties, so I stick to what I really need the Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C.

I bought the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone through the Beautybay website, it's easy to use their website and the check-out process is no hassle since I don't have a credit card I used my Paypal account.  Because I opt for a lesser shipment fee so I don't have the tracking number I don't have any idea where is my package it took almost a month to arrive at my address, but their customer service is very responsive they really tend to your inquiries and responded immediately.

Now let's talk about the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone, is it really the hype or not?

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

> Price: 215 THB

> Packaging:

I bought the 30 ml, the packaging is a minimalist frost bottle dropper, I like that it's a dropper because you can control how much product you will use. Usually, I used one drop on each side of my face, one drop in the forehead, left cheek, right cheek and chin. Others just use 2 - 3 drops to their palms and massage to their face. I like to apply it directly to my face.

> Texture and smell

The Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a lightweight serum, easily absorbs into the skin leaving a smooth finish. I love that it doesn't leave oiliness or sticky feeling in my skin, most moisturizer does and I'm not a fan, there is no fragrance which is better.

According to the Description in Beauty Bay the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

"combines 3 types of hyaluronic acid at varying molecular sizes with Vitamin B5 to offer lasting hydration and visible plumping of the skin at all levels of the dermis. Moisture retention, lipid barrier strength, and surface hydration are all improved, leading to smoother, softer, healthier skin.

- Hyaluronic Acid - Attracts up to 1000 times its weight in water

- Vitamin B5 - Hydrates and heals dry and damaged skin by stabilising skin's barrier function and promoting the growth of stronger tissue"

I've been using the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 for 3 weeks now and honestly? I haven't seen any major results in my skin. However, I noticed that it makes my skin smoother and I used it in the morning and before I sleep, when I wake up the next day my skin is really glowing like an instant glow-up. I have a scar on my chin and it is slowly erasing.

VITAMIN C SUSPENSION 30% IN SILICONE

> Price: 253 THB

>Packaging

I bought the 30 ml plastic oval tube packaging and still minimalist, it still works for me a bit, I mean most tube packaging when it's almost finished it's hard to really squeeze out all the products inside the tube. Imagine squeezing with all your energy to get the last bit of your toothpaste LOL! Anyways, the packaging looks sleek.

> Texture and smell

When I decided to buy the Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone, I have no idea what is silicone, I just keep my focus that it's Vitamin C.  Then I realized it's not what I want. Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone is light with watery silky formula in color white. It's not because it's a bit creamy that's why I don't like it, it's because of the finishing feeling of it, it leaves you a velvety feeling, It feels like you apply a baby powder in your face. It's weird at first actually but you get along with it. It does not absorb easily. Still, there is no fragrance.

> Personal Review

according to Beautybay Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone is:

"An anti-ageing serum.

Restoring a bright, youthful complexion, Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone is an effective antioxidant. Light and water-free, this silky formula is best applied of an evening and mixed with moisturizer to prevent a tingling sensation."

Aside from the weird finished feeling, it sometimes annoyed me like while applying a pea-size amount of product in my skin there's like a clumpy thick substance.

I'm not sure if it's me or the product itself or the silicone. Anyways, no matter who or what causes the reaction It made me decide that I don't like the texture of Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone, I think in my next purchase I will try the weaker concentration the Vitamin C suspension  23 % + HA Spheres 2%.

As I've mentioned above I've been using the Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone for 3 weeks now and I don't see any changes in my skin. As far as I know, Vitamin C helps to brighten dull skin,  fading pigmentation and improving skin tone and texture. However, I don't see any brightening effect with it in my skin.

As far as I go deeper about the brand The ordinary, I found out that The ordinary is a single ingredient product, that makes sense! as they have a lot of products with different major ingredients like Retinol, Niacinamide and a lot more. Mostly one skincare product is combined with a lot of ingredients, however, The ordinary is one ingredient in one bottle only. According to Adorebeauty  "The Ordinary base their products around active ingredients. For example, The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% contains very little else, other than the niacinamide and zinc it mentions in the name. The Ordinary 100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil is exactly what it says, there is only one ingredient on that list and it's the seed oil. By focusing simply on the ingredients which work". That is also one factor why The Ordinary is affordable compare to other brands because they did not mix any fancy ingredients, fragrance and even their packaging is so simple, what the bottle says is what you get nothing less nothing more. However, if you are not that very careful in using The ordinary products you will get bad reactions. Since, The Ordinary is a single-ingredient product you must be very careful on what product to use to go along with the other product, for example, you cannot use The Ordinary Retinol with vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and AHA/BHA acids.  AHA and BHA acids are exfoliating, which can dry out the skin and cause further irritation if your skincare routine already includes retinol. It sounds complicated, so I highly suggest before buying or reading miracle comments of The ordinary try to research first if it's good with your skin type and what other product are safe to layer with it, to avoid any bad effects. I highly suggest watching the Youtube video of Melissa Van Dijk to know more details, how to use and what and what's not to mix with The ordinary products.

So, the question is, is it hype or not? I think it is if you are really a skincare person like me. I like the idea that it is a product that focuses on one major ingredients only. However, if you want a moisturizer for daily use and nothing to worry about just apply it to the skin and it will moisturize then it's not for you. The ordinary products are very specific skincare, you need to follow the rules and the direction of use. I'm still in 3 weeks with my The ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone and I'm giving it a go until I finished the bottle and planning to change from Vitamin C Suspension 30% in silicone to Vitamin C suspension  23 % + HA Spheres 2%, also I would like to try The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution 30ml.

How about you loves? Have you tried The Ordinary products? Is it hype or not?
